Vine & Barley - A Unique Wine & Beer Lounge
Treasure Coast wine and beer enthusiasts are in for a special treat at Vine & Barley. Located in St. Lucie West, this wine & beer lounge offers wine technology not available anywhere else locally. The concept, imported from Italy, allows you to choose from over 75 wines. Simply insert your pre-paid 'Wine Card' into any wine bottle station and pour yourself a glass, half glass, or 'just a taste' of wine.
I enjoyed a number of wines and found the system to be quite simple and addictive, with the majority of wines ranging from $10
to $20 a bottle. The average 'taste' ranges from $1 to $2, and full glasses from $4 to $7. Out of over a dozen tastes of reds and whites, I found several to be memorable and purchased a bottle or two to take home. If you have ever gone cross eyed trying to pick out a bottle of wine to take home, and wished you could taste it before you purchased it, you can do just that at Vine & Barley.
Beer lovers will also find some prized offerings with 24 craft beers on tap, and at least as many available in bottles. Most of these are beers not readily found on tap on The Treasure Coast. If you are not sure what to choose for your first round, I suggest a 'Flight of Four' beers for only $5.95. One very nice 'Around the World' flight of beers consisted of a Dogfish Head 90 Minute (an Imperial IPA), a Chimay (a Belgian Trappist Triple), a Reisdorf (a light German Kolsch), and a Terrapin Wake 'N Bake (an Imperial Oatmeal Coffee Stout). The Terrapin was one of the more distinct beers I have ever tasted, and was thick, rich, and full of flavor.
Vine & Barley is a collaborative effort of Kevin Dyer, Danette Hilburn, and Jo Ann & Mark Carbone. They have created a warm, friendly, and comfortable atmosphere with a granite bar, leather sofa and chairs, bistro tables and Wi-Fi. This is not your typical smoked filled lounge, where you shout to be heard over a DJ. Vine & Barley is smoke-free, with a nice array of soft 'bluesy' background music, and a muted TV.
A light menu of cheese & meat platters are available, as well as desserts such as chocolate cakes, cheese cakes and Tiramisu (made fresh for Vine & Barley at Carbone's Italian restaurant). Also available to order are a variety of appetizers, sandwiches and salads from neighboring West End Grill. Unique, hand-painted wine & beer glasses from local artist Tami Cimperman's Foxyware Rhinestone collection and Gift Cards are available for purchase.
I found this very unique 'Wine & Beer Lounge' to not only be fun, but also very affordable even in today's market. Get yourself out to Vine & Barley for what will be both a unique and refreshing experience.
